The Umoja Journey
An Adventure With Purpose
The Umoja Journey is among the best luxury African Safari tours available.
It’s an ‘adventure with purpose’ that takes you to some of the best hotels and lodges in Africa while introducing you to the true nature, wildlife, and culture of Africa.
Welcome!
Hi, I’m David Marshall, founder of the Umoja Journey. Since 2011, I’ve led more than 30 custom trips across Africa, and the Umoja Journey is a showcase of my favourite stops.
Adventure
The experience of a lifetime!
I’ll bring you on a safari deep into the plains of Masai Mara, high above Victoria Falls in a helicopter, through the rugged wilderness on Rovos Rail, and down to Table Mountain on the majestic southern cape.
Each journey is unique, and every day holds a new surprise!
Purpose
A journey of self-discovery and legacy
My years leading a non-profit development organization have taught me that any adventure we seek for ourselves must also include a look at the injustice of poverty that grips the lives of many Africans. On the Umoja Journey, we stay in some luxurious places – I want you to feel safe and comfortable. But I design every trip so you can also see the reality of life in Africa and discover a way you can be part of making the world a better place.

AFRICAN COUNTRIES “I loved travelling this way. It was a combination of getting to see places I probably wouldn’t go to on my own, but doing it with a real purpose by giving back to the communities we visited and seeing some of the beauty these countries have to offer. I’m completely hooked on this way of travel and can’t wait for my next journey!”

“When my husband died, I could not see a future. So when I got an opportunity to go to Africa, I knew I had to make changes and couldn’t be too afraid to step out of my comfort zone. The trip showed me what I was made of and helped build my confidence. Now I have a whole new outlook, and I’ve discovered how I can make an impact beyond my own life to change lives and transform communities.”
